As the name implies, umnetcity.com is a virtual city on the Internet that is specifically developed for the community around University of Malaya (UM). umnetcity.com is an online space that the serves community of UM and the residents around the UM main campus. umnetcity.com aims to become the nexus for the community, and a platform that brings together various individuals who have certain interests in common.

umnetcity.com aims to periodically report related news on students and community. Meanwhile it also provides a platform for members of the community to interact, to share and to voice out their opinions and views.

UmNetCity （http://www.umnetcity.com/） 是我的学弟刘国华以及他的同乡学弟一同开发与架设的网络平台。

他们希望让来自马大的社群（马大在籍师生、毕业生、前职员等）通过互联网科技所带来的便利，在一个共同的虚拟平台上进行联系、交流、讨论和资讯分享等活动。

当然，与一般以盈利为导向的网络论坛不同的是，这个网络平台是由前马大生和在籍马大生自发创设，来回馈于马大社群的（by students, for students）。这种社区成员自发回馈社群的举措，和公民社会所倡导的民间自发动员、串联，一同谋求社区更大福利的精神不谋而合，因此更显珍贵。
