Has justice seen to be done?

Justice must not just be done but must be seen to be done.

Well, two days ago, we just heard that the newly appointed controversial chief justice Tan Sri Zaki Tun Azmi vowed to get tough on errant judges and his speech was well responded by Bar Council president Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan who said that Bar council would give him a chance to prove himself.

The next morning after Zaki delivered his inaugural chief justice speech, we were informed that Federal Court decided to dismiss the appeal by Anwar Ibrahim’s former speech-writer Munawar A Anees for his sodomy charge to be remitted to the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

The shocking news doesn't end here.

In the afternoon, local media started to report on High Court judge Ian Chin's resignation effective Dec 1. In June, Justice Ian Chin dislosed that during former premier Mahathir’s administration, judges had been threatened and sent to ‘boot camps’ for indoctrination. According to his revelation made in election petition hearing at Sarawak High Court, Mahathir had threatened judges with removal should they decide unfavourably towards his administration.
