MPMUM (Majlis Perwakilan Mahasiswa Unversiti Malaya) and HEP (Bahagian Hal-ehwal Pelajar) are co-organizing a so-called Pesta Ang Pow event by 1st of March.
A press conference lining up by MCA Youth chief Liow Tiong Lai, UM Pesta Ang Pow organising committee members and a UM lecturer had been held in UM campus as a publicity effort to promote this event.
A UM student has raised few questions about this event in the "UM subforum" of Cari Forum:
1) If this event is to promote integrity and unity among students from different racial, cultural and religious backgrounds, why there is no Malay and Indian organising committee member in the press conference line up?
2) If the main objective (hidden agenda?!) of this Pesta Ang Pow event is not to portray the openness of UM administration and BN government, why the pieces of news regarding this CNY celebration event had been widely published on Chinese Newspapers while many UM students are still unaware about the existence of such an event due to the poor publicity in UM campus itself?
3) Why there is no even a SINGLE CHINESE WORD on the backdrop of Pesta Ang Pow press conference shown in the picture?
Besides, my junior Zou Yu Hui and his friends from UMANY had done a great job by drawing public attention to the possibility of TNC HEP's hidden agenda to marginalize PBCUM (Persatuan Bahasa Cina Unversiti Malaya).
For your information, the organising committee of UM Pesta Angpow is comprised of pro-establishment student leaders and UMers from College CCs (Chinese Communities). PBCUM is not being invited to co-organize this event. What more surprising us is the idea of this event was just being proposed about one month ago while for normal scenario, a organising committee needs about 4 months to run a Pesta Angpow alike student mega project. Thus, this might be an attempt of HEP to marginalize PBCUM.
When PBCUM is no longer needed in organising Chinese cultural project, the HEP can further sideline PBCUM and even hand over the rights to organize Quan Bian (a prestigious national inter-varsity mandarin debate event) to pro-establishment student society.
Any YB from MPMUM to answer the questions raised by UMers?
