Siri’s New Ally: Apple Partners with OpenAI to Level the AI Playing Field with Microsoft

During the 2024 Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2024), Apple announced plans to integrate OpenAI's ChatGPT with its AI voice assistant, Siri.

Please note that Apple does not intend to replace Siri with ChatGPT, nor does it plan to operate ChatGPT as a separate AI assistant alongside Siri.

This is a strategic move, as Siri will become the intermediary for user instructions directed to ChatGPT and the filter for ChatGPT's responses to users.

This ensures that Apple's Siri remains in control of user interactions, while also making user instructions more specific and secure before routing them to ChatGPT for answers. Moreover, Siri could filter out any harmful responses or hallucinations generated by ChatGPT. 

Microsoft's recent share price surge can be largely attributed to its partnership with OpenAI, particularly the integration of ChatGPT into its productivity tools like GitHub Copilot, Azure OpenAI Service, Microsoft Designer, Power Apps, Microsoft Edge browser, Bing Search.

By also forging a similar partnership with OpenAI, Apple can now level the AI playing field with Microsoft and appease investors, preventing further market share and investment capital outflow to Microsoft. 

Additionally, Siri also serves as the backup plan when OpenAI's service is down, ensuring Apple end users continue to experience seamless AI-powered voice assistant services even when OpenAI's service is inaccessible.
